My Lord,
In continuation of my Secret despatch of
27th of June, 1929, I have the honour to inform
Your Lordship that the rumours mentioned in the
first paragraph of that despatch have since been
substantiated. By the end of June Generals Wong
Shiu-hung and Pai Chung-hsi had taken refuge in
Hanoi and their troops, in all about 20,000 men, had
nominally submitted to General Yu Tsok-p'ak.

2. The situation in Kwangsi is by no means
stabilised, for General Lui's forces still outnumber
by two to one the combined armies of Yeung Tang-fai
and Lei Ming-sui. Moreover, press reports state
that Yunnan province has been invaded by a faction
hostile to General Lung Yun, who has hitherto
controlled that province, and who was an adherent of
the Nanking Government, while General Chau Sai-shing,
an active supporter of the Kwang si party, has seized
